RECAP: Hawks Double Up 'Dogs In Series Finale

QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy Hawks hit .467 as a team on Saturday and belted four home runs in taking two from the Truman Baseball team to conclude their home-and-home weekend series. The Hawks edged out the Bulldogs 9-7 in game one and won game two 14-4.
 
Game 1 Box Score
  • The Bulldogs chased QU starter Jimmy McDonald after only four batters into the game.
  • The game opened with two straight walks before Charlie Kreh belted a double to center to give Truman a 2-0 lead.
  • Brendan Trimble drove in Kreh on a 3-2 pitch for a 3-0 lead to send the Hawks to their bullpen.
  • Brian Edell hit a sac fly and Adam Stolley stroked an RBI single to give Truman a 5-0 lead after their first at bat.
  • Brynn Martinez doubled to right center to start the Hawks first and scored on a sac fly to center to make it 5-1.
  • Quincy's first three hitters reached to start the second. A sac fly and error led to the Hawks scoring four runs in the frame to tie the game at five.
  • Truman regained the lead in the fifth on an RBI single by Stolley to score Dan Ampleman but the Bulldogs left the bases loaded.
  • Bulldog starter Matt Wade couldn't get through the fifth as he was chased after allowing three runs on two hits and two hit batsmen. Quincy jumped back on top 8-6.
  • A bunt single by Evan Kayser loaded the bases for Truman in the sixth with no outs but Truman manged just one run on sac fly from Ampleman.
  • The Hawks matched the run with an RBI single from Chandler Purcell.
  • Closer Cole Crawford got the final three outs in the sixth and set Truman down in order in the seventh to notch the save.
  • Kreh, Trimble, Kayser, Ampleman and Stolley all had two hits apiece in game one for Truman.

  • The Hawks hit all four of their day two home runs in the second game and two came off the bat of Cody Birdsong.
  • Mason King reached on a bunt single and scored the game's first run on a double from Brendan Trimble.
  • Birdsong's first home was a solo shot in the first and the Hawks added two more to lead 3-1.
  • Jon Lyons reached on a fielder's choice that scored Dan Ampleman in the second to cut the lead down to 3-2.
  • After a two-out walk to Martinez, Birdsong homered to right on a 1-1 pitch.
  • Troy Wehde followed Birdsong with a homer to right center and a 6-2 QU lead.
  • King singled again via bunt and scored on a sac fly from Trimble to cut lead in half at 6-3.
  • Martinez hit a solo home run to start the fourth inning but the Hawks left the bases loaded after relief pitcher Blake Bagenstos struck out Matt Hilmes on a 3-2 pitch.
  • King hit his third hit of the game and would score on a single through the right side by Evan Kayser.
  • The dam broke in the fifth when Quincy scored six times on six hits, three doubles and took a commanding 13-4 lead.
  • They would run-rule the Bulldogs in the seventh on an RBI single by Purcell.
  • Bryan Clark took the loss to slip to 2-6 while reliever Brandan Moriarty was the winning pitcher for Quincy.

The Bulldogs return home for a four-game series with the University of Missouri-St. Louis next weekend. The series with start at noon on Saturday.
