RECAP: Frantz Gets Record Setting Win In Doubleheader With Maryville

Game 1 Box Score | Game 2 Box Score

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Kent Frantz became Truman's all-time leader in pitching wins on Saturday as Truman won game one of their Great Lakes Valley Conference series against Maryville 3-2. Frantz won his 17th career win after going seven innings.

The Saints earned the twinbill split with an 8-3 victory in the nightcap. The two teams will conclude their series on Sunday with a start time of 11 a.m.

The Saints struck first in the opener when Dalton Schumer singled in leadoff hitter Drake Lubin in the bottom of the first inning.

An error proved costly for Maryville in the fourth. Brendan Trimble reached via the leadoff error at third and scored on a sac fly from Jack Goodwin to tie the game.

The game moved to the seventh when Brian Edell singled and pinch runner Brendan Kelly moved up on a walk issued to Kory Carter. Adam Stolley moved the runners up with a bunt then an error by the second baseman allowed both runners to score on a ball hit by Mason King.

Frantz retired the first two hitters in the Saints' seventh but the top of the order got things going. Lubin singled to left and scored on a double by Brennan Williams. Louis Niemerg walked but Frantz got out of the inning on a fly out by Schumer.

Matt Tometz escaped trouble in the eighth after getting the first two out.  A pair of singles and a catcher's interference loaded the bases for the top of the order but Lubin, searching for his fourth hit of the game, popped out to third to end the threat.

Peter Young struck out the first batter he faced but then gave up a double and walk. Tanner Forck was summoned and got an infield popup and a fly out to notch his first save of the season.

The Bulldogs had four hits in the game and two came from Charlie Kreh.

Game two started on a positive note for the Bulldogs when Brenden Kelly led off with a walk. He ended up a third following a stolen base and came in on the sac fly by Charlie Kreh for the 1-0 lead.

A two-run double by Dalton Schumer put the Saints on top in the bottom of the first. They would add another on a single from Conner Markell.

Brian Edell returned the favor with a run scoring double in the second and Ethan Kleinheider tied the game at three with a sac fly to score Zach Spencer.

The Saints went back in front in their second when Louis Niemerg brought in Lubin on a sac fly. Maryville added another in the third and Brennan Williams homered in the fourth to give the Saints a 7-3 lead. They would plate a final run in the fifth to win 8-3.

Starter Alec Harris set down 11 of the next 12 Truman hitters after the sac fly. Kreh doubled for only the third hit of the game but was stranded at third.

Rian Markes took the loss after giving up 11 hits in four innings.
