Flyers Ground High Flying Truman Women's Soccer Friday

Box Score

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – The Lewis Flyers maintained their mystic over the Truman Women's Soccer team by knocking off the #20 Bulldogs 2-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference opener on Friday afternoon.

The Flyers are the only GLVC team that Truman does not have a conference win against, having tied four times and falling in two other games since joining the league in 2013.

Lewis' leading scorer Kailey Parnello scored her fourth goal of the year on the Flyers' first shot of the game until five and a half minutes into the match. Mallory Richardson, who assisted on both Lewis goals, crossed it at midfield and Parnello beat Beth Hopwood from 30 yards out for the lead.

Laura Ney scored on a free kick in the 28th minute from 40-yards out to tie the match at one apiece. It was Ney's first goal of the season.

Lewis grabbed the lead back 10 minutes later when Abby Gustafson scored off a free kick by Richardson on the left side.

Truman sent five shots but only one on target in the second half that was stopped by Bri Riscossa for her only save of the game.

The Bulldogs will look to bounce back on Sunday hosting the University of Southern Indiana at noon. The Screaming Eagles dumped Drury 3-1 at home on Friday for their second straight win.
