RECAP: Coyne Strikes OT Winner For Truman Women's Soccer

Box Score

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – Mia Coyne picked up a loose ball that had eluded Maryville keeper Elyse Waterhouse and tapped home the game winner in the 98th minute to give the Truman Women's Soccer team a 2-1 victory over the Saints.

Addy Hoffman and Allie Cross assisted on the game winner that came when Hoffman sent the ball into the 18-yard box and it was tipped just enough by Cross to change course on Waterhouse. Coyne picked up the loose change and put the ball across the line from six yards out for her first of the season and first for her Truman career.

Coyne assisted on the game tying goal in the 19th minute. Coyne served a perfect free kick from the right side that was headed home by Paige Peterson for her second goal of the season.

Maryville struck first seven minutes into the match when Alex Johnson beat Beth Hopwood on her right side after the pass from Amanda Kaltwasser was slowed by a Bulldog defender but not stopped.

After Peterson's goal to tie the match, Truman had the bulk of the pressure in the first half.

The second half was more balanced in terms of attack time but Truman had the best chance to end it in regulation with about 27 minutes remaining. Coyne was the recipient of a pair of swing passes to her side of the field and her shot beat the keeper but was stopped on the line by Maryville's Claudia King.

Truman improves to 8-2 on the season and 4-2 in the GLVC while the Saints were handed their second loss overall (4-2-3) and in conference (3-2-1). The Bulldogs will play on Friday in Springfield, Missouri against Drury.
