LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Bellarmine, the No. 1 team in the country, held the Truman State University men's basketball team to its lowest offensive output in over five years and stretched its home winning streak to 65 games with a 70-51 decision on Saturday afternoon inside Knights Hall.
Truman (8-8, 3-3 GLVC) has now dropped three-straight games for a 2-6 record in true road contests while Bellarmine (14-0, 5-0 GLVC) leads the all-time series 6-3 and shot at least 50 percent from the field for the 12th time in its 14 games.
Saturday, three Bulldogs scored at least 10 points including
Nathan Messer (13),
Cade McKnight (13) and
Taurin Hughes (12).
Brodric Thomas (eight points) was held to fewer than 10 points in back-to-back games for the first time in his Truman career. Battling severe foul trouble, Thomas still managed to lead the team in rebounds with seven and assists with four.
Truman scored the game's first four points to earn its biggest lead of the day, which also came at 9-5 and 11-7. However, Bellarmine ended the half on an 11-0 run to take a 13-point lead, 32-19, into halftime. Out of the intermission, the closest the Bulldogs could get was seven (40-33 and 42-35) before the Knights pushed their lead to as many as 19 for the final tally.
Next up, Truman begins a four-game homestand on Thursday with Missouri-St. Louis and tip is set for 7:30 p.m. inside Pershing Arena.
