KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – The Truman Women's Basketball team will close out January with a trip to Rolla and Missouri S&T on Thursday then begin their march to March with a visit at the number one team in Division II, Drury University on Saturday.

The Bulldogs (17-3; 8-2) have won six straight over Missouri S&T with an average margin of victory of 22.6 points in those wins. However on the flip side, Drury has won 19 straight games this season, have won all 13 over the Bulldogs in the series history and enter the week with a 45-game conference home winning streak.

Truman went 3-1 on their previous four-game homestand with a 72-70 win over Illinois Springfield on Thursday night and a dominating 76-56 win over McKendree on Saturday. The Bulldogs are third in the Great Lakes Valley Conference standings and points rating system and along with travel partner Quincy, are the only two GLVC teams to have played 10 league games already.

Senior Rachel Edmundson leads the Bulldogs in scoring in conference games at 13.1 points per game. She has the most three-pointers made (29) in conference games this season and is shooting 43% from beyond the arc. For the season overall, Edmundson averages 11 per night and has 44 triples on 121 attempts (.36%).

Guards Brooke Bailey and Sloane Totta are both averaging just over 10 points per league game. Bailey has 65 dimes with 21 steals in all games this year and Totta has 57 assists with 22 steals.

Truman leads the GLVC in three-pointers made and attempted. The Bulldogs have 149 made threes overall, eight ahead of Drury.  In conference games, Truman makes 8.1 threes a game. In addition, Truman is number one in free throws made and free throws attempted. They are fifth nationally in free throws made with 335 and second in the conference in free throw percentage at 75.1%.

First on the docket will be Missouri S&T on Thursday night. The Lady Miners are one win away from matching last year's conference win total and two victories from tying the overall wins from last season. They are 5-2 in home games, a place where they've only played twice since the turn of the calendar to 2019. This will be the start of a five-game homestand for Missouri S&T.

Drury ascended to the top spot in Division II after previous number one Indiana (Pa.) lost to California (Pa.) 61-56 last Wednesday. The Lady Panthers started ninth in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association preseason poll and have steadily moved up. They were number two the last two weeks before getting the top spot in this week's survey. Drury has won 18 straight home games entering the week and 45 straight GLVC games dating back to January 5, 2014 when they last lost to Indianapolis.

Polls
For the ninth week this season, Truman was at least mentioned in the WBCA Division II poll. Truman was one of five teams outside the top 25 to receive enough votes to be listed.

The Bulldogs have been ranked twice this season, number 24 on January 2ndand number 25 on January 15.

Truman has been ranked inside the top 25 in five weekly polls since 2004, peaking at 19 on February 5, 2013. However, the team is 3-6 in games played following a top 25 national ranking.

The most weeks Truman has received votes in a poll during a season was 11 during the 2012-13 season.

100 Career Games:
Three Bulldogs are climbing up the career games played charts, Rachel Steinhoff, Brooke Bailey and Rachel Edmundson.

Steinhoff has played in 105 games, joining the likes of Felicia Sutton (1987-91) and Emily Turnbull (2000-04). She has made 64 starts and averages 5.4 points per game. This season, Steinhoff has come off the bench in all 20 games and give the Bulldogs nearly 15 minutes per game. She has 22 assists and five steals while averaging 2.5 points per game. She is six assists shy of 200 for her career and has 571 career points.

Bailey has played in 104 games and has started the last 28 straight. She is tenth on the career three-point shooting list with 123 makes and has 198 career assists. Bailey leads the team in minutes played this season at 25.5 per game and has the high mark of minutes in a game this season with 35 coming in the overtime win over Winona State back in November.

Edmundson overtook Bailey in the three-point career chart with 124 makes and is in ninth place in Truman lore. Next on the career charts is Amy Briggs at 133. Edmundson has 103 career games under her belt with starts in all 20 this season. She is the active leading scorer with 853 points.

A total of 32 players have played at least 100 career games in the Bulldog uniform. Courtney Strait has the most career games at 115 and Carol Jarrard and Allie Norton have the most career starts at 112.

Bulldog Bites:
  • Truman is averaging 72.4 points per game with a high of 93 against Barry on December 18 and a low of 59, twice.
  • In 10 conference games, the scoring average dips to 70.2 points per game while the scoring defense ticks up to 64.5 points.
  • Truman has taken and made the most three-pointers overall of any GLVC team. The Bulldogs have made 149 and taken 456. The most three-pointers made in a season was 253 set in 31 games during the 2013-14 season and the most attempts is 607 in 29 games during the 2007-08 campaign.
  • Nine players have played in all 20 games and all have averaged near or over 10 minutes per game. Brooke Bailey has the most on-court time average for the team at 25.5 minutes per game. Truman does not have a player within the top 30 in the GLVC in minutes played per game.
  • The 17 wins are the most by a team through the month of January eclipsing the previous high of 15 in 1998-99, 2012-13 and 2015-16. They are on the verge of sixth 20-win season in school history and fourth in their last seven years. The school record for wins is 22 in both 98-99 and 13-14.
  • Truman is also two conference wins shy of reaching double-figures wins for the ninth straight year. The most league wins by a Bulldog squad occurred in 2015-16 with 13 out of the 18 conference games.
  • Maddie Re has five of the six double-doubles this season and has pulled down 8.2 rebounds per game, good for fifth among all GLVC rebounders. She is joined by fellow freshman Kiara Stewart (UMSL) in the top 10. Stewart is tied for ninth with 6.9 per game.
  • Head Coach Amy Eagan is the all-time leader in Truman coaching wins with 105 in her six years on the Bulldog bench. The Bulldog All-American in 1999 is 105-57 at Truman and 181-137 in her coaching career. Truman is 63-37 in the GLVC and 26-23 in GLVC road games under Eagan.
  • Truman is 10-15 in GLVC Thursday night road games and 15-8 in conference Saturday road tilts. They have a three-game winning streak on GLVC Saturday road games.
  • This season, Truman is 15-1 when taking a lead into half and 14-0 when leading entering the fourth quarter. All time since the quarter system started, the Bulldogs are 57-8 when leading at half and 60-6 when leading after three.
  • The Bulldogs are one of three teams to earn the coveted "7-point win" in the GLVC Points Rating system this season. The 7-point win is the highest point total a team can get in a game and comes with a road win against a team with a winning percentage greater than 75%. Truman's 7-pointer came against Southern Indiana, while Drury also won at USI for seven points. Maryville was the third team to get seven and did it with a win in Pershing Arena over Truman.  At the end of last season, no team had earned a "7-point" win in the PRS.

About Missouri S&T:

The Lady Miners have dropped five of their last seven games, all within conference. They were most recently defeated by Southern Indiana 76-61 last Thursday and on Saturday by Bellarmine 85-75. They average 71.2 points per game but allow 71.5 points. The Lady Miners are last in league statistics in scoring defense in conference games, allowing 79.4 points. The team is tied for third in blocked shots per league game with 3.89 (35 blocks) but next to last in three-point defense with opponents hitting 78 triples (38.2%) in conference games, the most allowed by any team.

Freshman Alex Kerr is leading the team in scoring and is shooting 57% from the field in conference games. Kerr is averaging 11.8 points per night to go along with 17 blocks and 18 steals. Mykala Baylor has gobbled up 45 shots to rank first in blocked shots and is fourth in conference rebounding at 9.0.

History with Missouri S&T:
Truman has played S&T more times than any other GLVC opponent. The series dates back to 1977 with the Bulldogs on the winning side 34 out of the 58 games played. Truman is 6-0 against the Lady Miners since joining the GLVC in 2014.  The last S&T win in the series came in the last non-conference game between the two, December 2006 in Kirksville when S&T won 57-55 in overtime.

Last season, Truman won 77-50 in Kirksville and a week later won 79-59 in Rolla. In the first game, Rachel Edmundson scored 16 points and Katie Jaseckas recorded a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Janie Arand scored 16 for S&T. In the follow-up, Jaseckas had another double-double with 11 points and 10 boards and Truman knocked down 11 three-pointers. Bria Pierce scored 17 to pace Missouri S&T.

About Drury:
The Lady Panthers have blitzed through the first half of conference play. They are winning games in the league by an average of 26.6 points per game while averaging over 20 steals per league game and forcing 33 turnovers per night. The latest example was Saturday's win at Southern Indiana. Despite only three, three-pointers and being outrebounded by 16, Drury recorded 28 steals and forced the Screaming Eagles into 45 turnovers in a 77-50 win. USI had one more turnover than total shots attempted.

Drury was 31-3 last season and in those three defeats, opponents still turned the ball over more than 25 times but were able to get to the free throw line more than the Lady Panthers. Against Ashland in the regional final, Drury shot only two free throws to the Eagles 22, against Bellarmine, the Knights made 21-of-27 to Drury's 17-of-24 and against Southwest Baptist, the Bearcats were 32-of-38 compared to DU's 20-of-26. In looking at their last seven losses, dating back to 2016, the common theme when comparing stats was all seven got to the line either as equal to or more than the Lady Panthers.

Hailey Diestelkamp is second in the GLVC in scoring at 20.4 points per game. Freshman Paige Robinson is third in conference-only scoring at 16.9 points. Diestelkamp is second in rebounding at 9.4 per game and the Lady Panthers feature four of the top five in the league in overall steals per game led by Daejah Bernard with 73.

History With Drury:
The series has been one-sided all in favor of the Lady Panthers. Drury has won all 13 games, nine by double-figures.  The slimmest margin of win was six both in 2003 in Kirksville and in 2014 in overtime at the NCAA regional in Springfield.

In last year's games, Drury led by only three at the end of three in Pershing Arena at 44-41 but outscored Truman 13-5 in the final quarter to win 57-46. Katie Jaseckas pulled down a career-high 18 rebounds in the loss and Sloane Totta led Truman with 12 points. Hailey Diestelkamp led all scorers with 18. In the return meeting in Springfield, Drury raced out to a 22-4 first quarter advantage and led by more than 20 points the rest of the way in a 72-46 victory.
