RECAP: Bulldogs Net Five in Win Over SBU

KIRKSVILLE, Mo.—The Truman Men's Soccer team had a field day against the Southwest Baptist Bearcats, scoring five goals en route to a 5-1 win. The offensive barrage resulted in many milestone performances. Andrew Brennan got the first mutli-goal game of his career with goals coming in the 13th minute and 54th minute. He also assisted on multiple goals to earn a six point game, his career high. Mac Knudsen and Adam Shine both got their first career goals and Julian Echeverri got his first career win.

From the get-go Truman had an extra gear that SBU just couldn't match, and in the 12th minute Matt Yankowitz got the scoring started for the Bulldogs, his fifth of the season. Brennan picked up his first assist. A minute later, Brennan got his first goal. It looked like the ball was going out of bounds but Brennan raced down the sideline to keep it in play and then ran around the defender and put the ball past the goalie. The game went in to intermission with TSU up 2-0.

In the second half, TSU kept on the attack and Brennan got his second goal in the 54th minute, his third of the season. But TSU refused to take their foot off the gas and in the 54th minute Knudsen made a run past his defender and broke through for the goal to make it 4-0. Brennan and Ryan Stites assisted. SBU finally got on the board with a penalty shot in the 86th minute from Alberto Rodriguez. Just over a minute later Shine got behind the defense and on a long kick from the goal, Echeverri picked up the assist as Shine made it 5-1.

The win improves the Bulldogs to 5-5-1 overall and 4-4-1 in GLVC play. They will look to go back over .500 next weekend as they take on Missouri S&T Friday at 7:30 p.m. and Maryville Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
