ROLLA, Mo. – The reigning Great Lakes Valley Conference offensive player of the week bolstered her resume for this week's award as the Truman Bulldogs defeated Missouri S&T 2-0 on Friday night.
Chance Douglass scored two goals in a span of 22 seconds early in the first half for the only tallies of the game. Douglass has now scored and has nine total points in three straight games.
The first goal came in the fifth minute and was assisted by
Hanna Burke. Isabell Kurzban tried to play a ball through to Douglass but the pass was blocked right off of Burke back to Douglass, who slid the ball from 20 yards out past the Miner keeper at the 5:58 mark of the match.
On the restart,
Hanna Liljegren forced a turnover and Kurzban played the ball from the right toward the middle of the 18-yard box. Kristin Steins, the MST keeper, attempted to grab the ball but Douglass was able to get in front, steal it away and bury it in the top of the cage for the 2-0 lead.
The Bulldog defense did not allow S&T to have a shot on goal and the Miners had only five shots total for the game.
Beth Hopwood recorded her fifth shutout of the season and her third in four games for Truman.
The Bulldogs improve to 6-5-1 overall and 6-4 in the GLVC with an important match with Maryville on Sunday. The Saints picked up a 2-1 win over Quincy to remain in third place in the conference. Kickoff is scheduled for noon.
