KIRKSVILLE, Mo.—The Truman Volleyball Team took the court for the third of three consecutive home matches on Tuesday night against arch-rival Quincy, coming in with a 20 match winning streak over the Hawks. It was a seesaw match with both teams looking dominant at times but ultimately Quincy came out on top 3-1 (25-15, 25-18, 15-25, 25-22).
Ainsley Heise tied her career high in kills with nine, which she set against Indy on Friday night.
Sam Yancy had nine kills and 17 digs, while
Lauren Wacker returned to the lineup with 20 digs to lead the team.
Jocelynn Livingston led the team with 13 kills.
The first set was tight to begin, down 6-4 back to back kills from Yancy and
Ellie Kaat evened the set. The two would go back and forth but from 11-11 Quincy went on an 8-2 run to distance themselves by six. Truman would not catch up and Quincy won the set 25-15.
At the start of set two, it looked much like the first set but a 4-0 run by Quincy made it 10-5 in favor of the visitors. Later on kills from Yancy and Heise would draw Truman within four at 14-10 but another 4-0 run by Quincy put the set out of reach for the Bulldogs. Eventually Quincy took the set 25-18.
In the third set the Truman attack started to click. Kills from
Morgan Smith and Heise spurred an early 4-0 lead. That lead would swell to 13-2, with Yancy and Livingston getting kills in the middle of the run. Quincy would come as close as seven but each time the Hawks would get a point Truman had an answer and cruised to a 25-15 win in the set.
Quincy jumped out to a 6-2 lead to start the fourth set, which forced a Truman timeout. The adjustments paid off as TSU would knot the set at 8 apiece. Quincy pushed back to take a 16-10 lead, which set up 10-1 run for the Bulldogs. Lindsey Woltering got her first kill of the season and the second of back to back kills from Yancy put Truman ahead. But from there Quincy regained the upper hand and finished the match with a 25-22 win in the set.
Truman will be on the road at Maryville in St. Louis Friday at 7 p.m. and Missouri S&T in Rolla Saturday at 3 p.m.
