ST. LOUIS—The Truman Volleyball team continued their GLVC conference schedule Friday night as they took on Maryville. Behind an offense that hit .212 with 39 kills and a defense that racked up 59 digs, the Bulldogs swept the Saints 3-0 (25-18, 25-19, 25-14).
From 2-2 in the first set, Truman took the advantage with a 7-2 run that featured kills from Ellie Kaat, Elise Hardesty and Ainsley Heise as well as a service ace from Elle Renault. Truman would lead the rest of the set as their attack hit a staggering .371 during the set to roll to a 25-18 win.
The second set Truman jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead, with kills from Kaat and Hardesty. Maryville fought back within three at 6-3 but back to back kills from Jocelynn Livingston ended the quick Maryville run and the Truman lead would swell to 11-3, and then hit double digits later in the set at 16-6. The hosts would rally to come within six, but could not catch up to the Bulldogs who took the set 25-19.
It was tight to begin the third set, as the teams split the first twelve points. After Maryville took a brief lead, Truman reorganized and went on a 7-0 run to take a 13-7 lead. As the set went on Truman's lead would swell to double digits at 20-10. Kills from Livingston and Sam Yancy would end the set and give Truman a 25-14 win.
Kaat led the team with 11 kills, and Ambria Whitlock led the team with a .667 hitting percentage. Lauren Wacker led the team with 25 of the 59 digs and Hardesty had 27 assists.
The team will be back in action tomorrow at 3 p.m. in Rolla as they take on Missouri S&T.
