RECAP: Truman Holds Off Pesky Eagles On Friday Night

Box Score (HTML)

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – Maddie Re pulled down a career-best 16 rebounds and added a dozen points and Sloane Totta added a double-double of her own with 16 points and 10 assists in Truman Women's Basketball 78-74 victory over Avila (Mo.) University on Friday night.

The Bulldogs could not get separation from the Eagles as Avila shot 46% overall from the field and were 13-of-26 (50%) from outside. There were nine ties with the last coming early in the third quarter.

Truman went on a 14-3 run with Re scoring six of her 12 points in a five-minute span during the third. However, the Eagles clawed right back with three threes in a three minute burst spanning the third and fourth quarter break to close to within three at 55-52 with 8:57 to play.

The Bulldogs quickly got hoops from Katie Jaseckas, Totta and a triple by Hannah Belanger to go back up by 10 but later a three-pointer from Paige Bunn cut the deficit back down to one possession at 68-65 with 3:34 left.

Totta would be ice from the free throw line as she knocked down seven straight points from the stripe and kept it a two-possession game for the rest of the regulation.

It was the first time in the senior's career that she topped 10 assists in a game; her previous best was nine against Maryville University in 2017. She was 4-of-13 from the field and 1-of-8 from distance but made up for it by going 7-of-8 at the line.

Re grabbed 16 of the team's 37 rebounds and was 6-of-9 from the floor for 12 points. Her previous benchmark in boards was 13 against Wayne State.

Jaseckas finished with 15 points on 7-of-9 shooting. Belanger had three triples to finish with 13 points and Katie Klucking scored 10.

Taylor Faulkner was the shooting star for Avila. She hit six three-pointers on 11 attempts and finished with a game-high 22 points. Bunn was 7-of-15 for 19 points.

The Bulldogs will next be in action at the Drury Thanksgiving Classic in Springfield, Missouri on Friday, November 29th. Truman will face Northern Michigan at 7:45 p.m. before facing Central Missouri on Saturday at the same time.
