RECAP: Bulldogs Earn Fourth Seed & Home Match With 2-1 Win Over Lindenwood

Box Score (HTML)

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – Sydni Beeley scored her first collegiate goal at the most important time of the season to give the Truman Women's Soccer team a 2-1 victory over Lindenwood (Mo.) and vault the Bulldogs to a home quarterfinal match in the upcoming Great Lakes Valley Conference tournament.

With all the chips needing to fall in Truman's favor for a home game, the Bulldogs earned the fourth seed in the bracket and will host Bellarmine (Ky.) in a quarterfinal game next Sunday. Time of the match will be announced later in the week.

Lindenwood struck first as they were fighting for a top eight tournament spot. Mia Corrigan blasted a shot from 25-yard out and beat Beth Hopwood on her left for the 1-0 lead in the ninth minute.

Truman quickly responded with Hanna Burke scoring her fourth goal of the season from a pass by Amelia Coyne just over a minute later.

The two teams settled into the match with each team putting some chances on net.

In the 72nd minute, Paige Peterson lobbed a pass to Chance Douglass to the right side of the Lindenwood frame. Douglass was near the end line and flicked it in front of the goal where Beeley got just enough toe on the ball for it to break the plane of the line for the winner.

Truman was able to withstand the late pressure by the Lions to move to 10-6-1 overall and 10-5-0 in the GLVC. Lindenwood dropped to 7-9-1 overall and 6-8-1 in the conference.

McKendree earned the top seed with an 11-2-2 record followed by Indianapolis at 11-3-1 and Rockhurst at 11-4. The Bulldogs were 10-5, Maryville 9-5-1 but lose in a tie break with Bellarmine (8-4-3). Southern Indiana (8-6-1) and Lewis (6-6-3) will round out the bracket.

It will be the second meeting between Truman and Bellarmine this season. The Knights came to Kirksville on September 29 and came away with a 1-0 win with the match played on the turf at Stokes Stadium due to heavy rain that weekend.
