Truman Football Wins America's Crossroads Bowl 21-7 For Win #10

Box Score (HTML)

HOBART, Indiana – The Truman Bulldogs grabbed early control with two monster drives and won the inaugural America's Crossroads Bowl 21-7 over Ohio Dominican on Saturday afternoon.

The Bulldogs opening drive went 19 plays and took over 10 minutes off the clock before Josh Scheiderer knocked through 20-yard field goal to stake the 'Dogs to a 3-0 lead. The drive saw Truman convert on five third down plays.

Truman then forced a quick three and out but Ohio Dominican punter Logen Neidhardt unleashed a 74-yard punt to flip the field and put the Bulldogs inside their own one yard line.

Like the drive before, Truman meticulously picked their way down the field and on the 14th play of the drive, Jordan Salima bulldozed in from nine yards out and a 10-0 Truman lead.

ODU got some footing later in the quarter and pulled to within three when quarterback Jake Woycke rushed in from eight yards with 2:13 to go before half.

Truman looked content to go to half with the three-point lead but Salima broke off a nine-yard run on second down to put the ball out to the Bulldog 34. On the next play, Jaden Barr found Jacob Morris out of the backfield for a 30-yard pass play and Truman was knocking on the door.  Morris would reel in a 10-yard pass on fourth and two that eventually set up a 40-yard field goal by Scheiderer to make the halftime score 13-7 in favor of Truman.

The Panthers got the ball to start the second half and marched into Truman territory. The Bulldog defense would get the stop as ODU gambled on fourth down and nine yards to go at the Truman 29. The pass sailed out of bounds and Truman took over on downs.

Barr found Jake Ellis on the ensuing drive to convert another third down and Salima busted a 14-yard run aided by 15-yard unsportsmanlike foul on ODU that placed the ball at the eight. Salima again powered into the endzone for his second touchdown of the day.
The point after saw Truman utilize the swinging gate formation with Morris getting the direct snap and then lofting a pass back to Scheiderer for the two points.

Reed McBroom would get an interception and the Bulldog defense would stuff the Panthers the rest of the way to preserve the first 10-win season in program history.

Salima was named the most valuable player on offense with 117 yards on 30 attempts. Barr ended his 45th game as Truman's quarterback going 18-of-26 for 168 yards. Spencer Newell caught four passes for 44 yards.

Truman possessed the ball for 37:44 and was 11-of-18 on third downs.

The defense held the Panthers to 169 yards of total offense with McBroom leading the charge with 10 tackles.
