KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – The Truman Women's Basketball team will be seeking to become the first Bulldog team to reach the 20-win plateau during the regular season when they travel to William Jewell and Rockhurst this weekend for a pair of Great Lakes Valley Conference games.

Only five other teams in Bulldog lore have reached 20 wins and all of them did so during postseason play. The most wins in a season are 22 set in both 1998-99 and again in 2013-14. Truman enters the week with a 19-4 record and a 10-3 GLVC mark. They are in third place in the conference points rating system and have now hit double-digit wins in conference play for the ninth consecutive year and 11thoverall.

Standing in the way of win number 20 will be return games against the Cardinals of William Jewell and the Hawks of Rockhurst. Truman snuck out a 60-59 win over Jewell on December 1 while dominating the Hawks 73-56 in the conference opener on November 30.

In five of the last six meetings with William Jewell, the margin of win has been five points or less with the Bulldogs taking four of those six. The last Cardinal win was when the two teams played in Liberty in 2018 as Jewell held on for a 52-49 victory.

In the previous game this season, Makenzie Bray knocked down one of three free throw attempts with three seconds left and the Bulldogs survived a back iron shot from Kiara Bradley at the buzzer for the one-point win. The score was tied 10 times and their were 11 lead changes until Bray was fouled on the three-point attempt. Bray finished with 11 as did Maddie Re and Katie Jaseckas paced the Bulldogs with 12 points. It was the second-lowest shooting game by the Bulldogs this season at 33.8%.

The Cardinals got 17 points from Bradley on 6-of-11 shooting but were a woeful 3-of-19 (15.8%) from three-point range. Jewell has since gone 8-8 and have won their last two home games, both at home. They defeated McKendree last Thursday 77-68 and Illinois Springfield on Saturday 85-60. The Cardinals are 11-10 overall and 5-8 in the GLVC which puts them holding on to the eighth and final tournament spot in the points rating system if the season ended today. They are four-hundredths of a point ahead of Missouri S&T.

Rockhurst is 4-13 since the early season meeting in Kirksville against the Bulldogs. They have won once in their last six games (only win was a 69-57 victory over Illinois Springfield) and will host Quincy on Thursday night. They are on the outside looking in on the points system sitting in 12thposition with a 2.12 PSR.

That first game with Truman saw Rachel Edmundson score a season-high 20 points with six three-pointers. Truman led by only three (28-25) at the half but scored the first 12 points of the third quarter to pull away. The Bulldogs made a season-high 12 triples during the game and shot 48% from beyond the arc.  Maddie Re (12) and Allison Thomas (10) joined Edmundson in double-figures for the 'Dogs.

Mary Leigh Rock led Rockhurst with 10 points but as a team, shot 33.9% for the game.

Free Throw/Three-Point Leaders:
Truman is the number one team in the GLVC in both free throws and three-pointers. The Bulldogs have made 370 of 494 free throw attempts to rank first in both categories in the conference and they are eighth in Division II in freebies made.

On the three-point side of things, Truman has knocked down 173 triples and taken 521 to lead the conference. In GLVC only games, the Bulldogs average a league-best 8.08 threes per game with 105 makes out of 289 attempts.

Polls
The Bulldogs have now tied the 2012-13 season for most weeks receiving votes in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association Division II poll. The Bulldogs again picked up votes but not enough to crack the top 25 this week

Truman has been ranked twice this season, number 24 on January 2ndand number 25 on January 15.

Truman has been ranked inside the top 25 in five weekly polls since 2004, peaking at 19 on February 5, 2013. However, the team is 3-6 in games played following a top 25 national ranking.

The March To Madness:
The NCAA Division II tournament will feature 64 teams, eight from the eight regions. Truman and the GLVC are members of the Midwest region, which is also comprised of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletics Conference (GLIAC) and the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (GMAC). Each of those three conferences has an automatic spot in the regional tournament.  Five teams can earn an "at-large" bid that will be selected by a Regional Advisory Committee. The first regional ranking will be released on February 20.

The ranking committee will rate teams on the following criteria; overall Division II winning percentage, in-region winning percentage, strength of schedule (opponent's average winning percentage and opponent's opponent's average winning percentage); head to head results, common Division II opponent results, results against teams with a .500 record or better, in-region rating percentage index and a performance indicator index.
