RECAP: Bulldogs Reach 20-Win Plateau With 74-66 Victory At Rockhurst

Box Score (HTML)

KANSAS CITY – For the first time in school history, a Truman Women's Basketball team has won 20 games in the regular season. The Bulldogs clipped the Rockhurst Hawks 74-66 to improve to 20-5 and 11-3 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.

Sloane Totta put up career numbers for the Bulldogs in getting the bounce back win from Thursday's loss. Totta scored 28 points, going 9-of-14 from the field with two three-pointers and was 8-of-11 from the foul line in a career most 36 minutes on the floor.  Rachel Steinhoff joined Totta in double-figures for the first time in over a year. Steinhoff added 11 points with three made field goals and 5-of-6 from the line.

Truman jumped on top and led 20-8 after one but Rockhurst closed to within six near the end of the half. Three straight triples, one by Totta and two from Rachel Edmundson, pushed the Bulldog lead back out to 16 at 40-24.

The Bulldogs maintained the double-figure lead throughout the third but things got dicey down the stretch.  Madeline Ronshausen scored at the 3:28 mark to cut the lead down to seven. However out of a timeout, Katie Jaseckas knocked down a big three to restore a 10-point advantage.

Rockhurst wouldn't go quietly with back-to-back hoops from Tracy Monahan brought the Hawks to six at 69-63. Totta and Steinhoff knocked down late free throws to preserve the win.

Ronshausen scored 16 points to lead Rockhurst.

Truman swept the season series with Rockhurst and now become the sixth Bulldog team to reach the 20-win mark. They are the first team to win 20 before the conference tournament and will look to add to that win total with a game at Quincy next Saturday afternoon.
