RECAP: UINDY Wins "Home Run Derby" To Take First Two From Truman Baseball

Game 1 Box Score \ Game 2 Box Score

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – The UINDY Greyhounds took advantage of the gale force winds blowing out to left and outslugged the Bulldogs in a pair of Great Lakes Valley Conference games on Friday. The teams will wrap-up the three-game series on Saturday at noon.

Indianapolis hit a total of 15 home runs in the doubleheader, all to left or left center field with the wind steady at 25 miles per hour with higher gusts.

It was Truman that hit the first one of the day when Holden Missey got a two-run shot over the left center field fence to stake the Bulldogs to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first.

From there, the Greyhound bats took over with a five-spot in the second. They would send 17 hitters to the plate in the third, scoring 11 times and added five more in the fourth to blow things  open. UINDY had 25 runs on 27 hits to win 25-2 in the opener.

Game two saw UINDY grab a 2-0 lead in the second and extend it to 5-0 after their half of the third. Mason King and Adam Stolley got into the long ball act, only going to right field for theirs to trim the lead down to 5-2.

UINDY added three in the fourth and five in the sixth to go up 13-2 but Truman was able to make a dent in the sixth with the first five reaching base. Evan Kayser singled in Ethan Kleinhieder and Steven Bradbury followed with an RBI single to center to score Missey. The Bulldogs had the bases loaded but relief pitcher John Hendry got a short flyout to right for the first out and induced the 1-2-3 double-play to end the threat.

The Greyhounds hit their final two home runs in the seventh to win 15-4.
