Faith Branson netted the first goal of the season and the Truman Women's Soccer team earned their league opening win in the Bulldogs 1-0 victory over archrival Quincy on Sunday afternoon.
Quincy had the bulk of chances and possessions in the first half utilizing a strong west wind. QU put 11 shots up with
Beth Hopwood stopping all six on goal to preserve the scoreless half.
Truman took advantage of the wind in the second and off a free kick the ball found its way to the 18-yard box where
Emmie McConnell touched it to
Faith Branson who in turn buried behind keeper Emilee Autry for the goal in the 71
st minute.
The Hawks would later play a player down after a straight red card by a QU defender prevented a possible breakaway later in the half.
Hopwood stopped all 11 Quincy shots on goal to earn save number 11 for her career.
The Bulldogs will hit the Kansas City metro area next Friday and Sunday with matches against Rockhurst and William Jewell respectively.
