KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – Trailing by as many as 12 and nearly most of the game, the Truman Women's Basketball team shook off a sluggish start and downed Illinois Springfield 81-75 on Thursday night to run their conference winning streak to six games.

The Bulldogs (10-3; 6-0 GLVC) fell behind 18-8 early before
Hannah Belanger started to find her range. Belanger kept Truman in the game by scoring 17 of the 31 first half points as Truman trailed 41-31 at half.

Belanger kept it rolling early in the third and had 27 of Truman's 42 points as the Bulldogs clawed back to within three 45-42.

From there, UIS (6-8; 1-5 GLVC) kept Truman at arm's length with the lead bouncing between five and seven points for the next quarter and a half. Â

Katie Jaseckas and
Maddie Re strung together consecutive baskets for the Bulldogs to pull Truman to within one at 67-66 and following two empty possessions,
Sloane Totta gave the Bulldogs the lead with a conventional three-point play at the 3:41 mark.

Totta would score six of her season-high 23 points in the final 2:18 and UIS would go just 2-of-15 from the field down the stretch. Â Totta was 8-of-14 from the field and 7-of-9 from the line. Belanger was 9-of-12 with five three-pointers and all six from the stripe for 29 points.Â
Maddie Re grabbed 12 rebounds.

UIS had four players in double-figures led by 17 from Jasmine Sangster and 16 from Malea Jackson.

Truman will face one of the other unbeaten teams in the league on Saturday when 6-0 Lewis University visits for a 1 p.m. tip. The Flyers defeated Quincy 70-54.
