LEBANON, Ill.—The Truman Men's Basketball team got back in the win column on Saturday as they defeated McKendree 82-65 following Thursday's three point loss at Southern Indiana. Brodric Thomas led the team with 22 points and tied a career high with four steals while Turner Scott tied a season high with four three pointers made.
In the first few minutes of the game, the two teams were neck and neck. From a 10-10 tie Truman went on a 7-0 run, started with a three pointer from Cade McKnight. McKendree answered with a 9-0 run to take their first lead at 19-17, then Truman proceeded to knot it up at 19 and from there the teams would go back and forth—tying three more times during the half. A three from Scott at 3:41 broke a 27 all tie and Truman led the rest of the half, taking a 35-34 lead into the locker room.
McKendree scored the first four points of the second half to take a three point lead at 38-35. Scott made another three to tie the game at 38, it was the start of a 9-0 run for Truman that gave the Bulldogs a six point lead at 44-38. McKendree got the game back within two at 44-42 but from there Truman went on another big run—this time 14-2, to take a 56-44 lead. Thomas and Scott each made threes and Mark Rogers capped it off with a layup. The Bearcats would cut the lead back to single digits at 64-55, but a 12-0 run gave the Bulldogs their largest lead of the game at 21 points. Truman cruised from there to take the 17 point win.
Truman ran past McKendree in the second half, outscoring the Bearcats 47-31 in the frame. The Bulldogs shot 53.3% in the frame, including 5-13 from downtown.
The Bulldogs will be back at Pershing Arena as they take on Rockhurst on Thursday evening and William Jewell on Saturday afternoon for their second matchup against each team this season.
