RECAP: Second Half Surge Pushes Lindenwood Past Truman Women

ST. CHARLES, Mo. – The Lindenwood Lions overcame a 13-point second half deficit and ran their winning streak over the Truman State Bulldogs to four in an 80-75 win on Saturday afternoon. The loss was the first of the season for the Bulldogs.
 
Devin Fuhring scored a career-high 33 points, making five of seven three-point attempts for the Lions as Lindenwood won their third straight. Hannah Belanger and Ellie Weltha led Truman in scoring with each pouring in 16 points.
 
The Bulldogs led 36-33 at the half and extended their lead out 53-40 midway through the third quarter but the Lions switched up their defense and turned on some pressure and closed the quarter on a 14-6 run to trail 59-54.
 
Julia Ruzevich gave the Lions their first lead since the first quarter with a pair of free throws with 6:23 to play but Tiffany Davenport connected from distance to leapfrog the Bulldogs back on top. 
 
Handy Hennessey knocked down her only two buckets of the night, both from three in 44-second span to put the Lions back in front.
 
The game was tied at 72 with 2:52 to go when three Lindenwood free throws and a triple from Nicole Hernandez pushed the Lions out by six with a minute to play. 
 
Katey Klucking cut that lead in half with her own triple and after a stop and timeout, Truman had a chance to tie with 17 seconds left. The possession was empty as the Bulldogs turned the ball over were able to knock down free throws at the end to hold off the 'Dogs.
 
Lindenwood made 13 three-pointers with seven coming in the second half while Truman was 8-of-20 from outside. 
 
Weltha had her first collegiate double-double for the Bulldogs with her career-high 16 points to go with 11 rebounds. Klucking made a team-high four triples to finish with 14 points. Katie Jaseckas added 12 with three blocks and Davenport had three threes and ended with 11.
 
The Bulldogs will next be in action on Sunday, December 20 when Quincy University visits Pershing Arena. Truman's game with Maryville that was scheduled for Friday was postponed due to COVID protocols in the Maryville University program.  Tip time from Kirksville is scheduled for 1 p.m.
