TERRA HAUTE, Ind.--The Truman Men's Basketball team got back in action this week with an exhibition game at Indiana State, replacing the University of Indianapolis when the Greyhounds had to halt their program activities due to a covid outbreak within their team. The Bulldogs took the place of the Greyhounds and fell to the Sycamores 80-66.
This game was an opportunity for many younger players to showcase their abilities. Eric Northweather, freshman post, led the team with 20 points and had two of the three blocked shots. He shot 7-10 from the field and drained four three pointers. Sam Lock and Ben Cooper were tied for second on the team with 16 points, and each of them also made four treys. Cecil Lee III led the way with eight rebounds and Sam Nissen led with seven assists.
ISU jumped out to a quick 8-0 lead, but Truman responded with 12 straight points, including three pointers from Cooper and Lock, to take a four point lead. Most of the first half was back and forth, with teams giving and taking the lead. Truman took their biggest lead of the half at 33-27 with 1:55 left to play following a three pointer from Northweather. The Sycamores tied it up but Cooper made a three at the buzzer to give Truman a 36-33 edge going into half.
ISU scored the first 12 of the second half to grab a nine point lead at 45-36. Northweather and Cooper made back to back threes to pull Truman back within one possession, and then Lock drained a triple to tie the game up. From there ISU had another run to take a six point lead, and then Truman cut it to four with a layup from Keaton Mitchell. But that would be as close as Truman would come as ISU pulled away to win.Â
Truman will be back in action this Saturday in St. Charles as they take on Lindenwood, with a 3:30 anticipated start time.
