Following high school Coburn spent a short stint at South Dakota State University before transferring to Kirkwood community college. In his lone season for the Eagles he averaged 3.0 PPG and 2.9 RPG with an outstanding 93.5% from the charity stripe.

High School
He played his prep career at Spirit Lake High School. As a senior Coburn averaged a double double with 22.2 PPG and 12.1 RPG. In addition, to points and rebounds, he averaged 2.3 APG & 2.0 BPG. Throughout his career Coburn was a two-time Class 3A All-State, three-time 3A IBCA All-Sub State and four-time all-conference performer.

Owen is majoring in Business Administration. He is the son of Ian and Shelly Coburn and the youngest of two children with a sister named Emma.
