INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.—After winning the last two games by one point each, the Truman Men's Basketball team ended up on the short end of a one point game this time as Indianapolis won 83-82 on their home floor. Despite 22 points from Brodric Thomas and a season high 21 from Hunter Strait, UINDY's Jimmy King made the decisive basket at the end to put the Greyhounds on top.
Alex McQuinn got the first bucket of the game, but UINDY responded with five straight and held the lead until Cade McKnight got a three point play to tie it up again at nine each. Truman would regain the lead at 17-16 at the 11:53 mark of the first half, with McQuinn getting a layup to put the Bulldogs back up. UINDY took back the lead, but Turner Scott hit from downtown with 7:31 to go that put Truman up 28-26. A bucket from Thomas gave Truman their largest lead of the half at 30-26, but a 7-0 gave UINDY the lead then Strait hit from three point range to knot it up again with 2:58 to go. The Greyhounds went on a 10-0 run after that but Truman got the last two points of the half as Mark Rogers hit from the foul line to cut the Truman deficit to 43-35 at intermission.
Early in the second half, the hosts pushed their lead to as many as 12. With 14:16 to go, Truman trailed 62-52 but their run was about to begin. Over the next 2:55 Truman went on an 11-2 run to cut their deficit to one at 64-63. UINDY continued to hold the lead until the 5:39 mark when a layup from Rogers tied it up at 73. A bucket from UINDY put them back up 75-73, then a trey from Thomas gave Truman their first lead since the 3:45 mark of the first half at the 4:16 mark of the second. With 1:21 to go, the two were tied at 79 following a free throw from Thomas. Another dramatic finish was in store.
Thomas nailed the second free throw to put Truman up one. UINDY got back up at 1:02, then in the last five seconds Turner Scott was back on the foul line in a pressure situation. He hit both foul shots to go up 82-81. It would have been the third straight game winner for Scott, but King took the in bound down the right side of the court and then banked the final shot high off the glass and it went in to win the game for UINDY.
Truman will be back in action Thursday for the third game of their three game road swing as they go to Drury. The Bulldogs hold onto the best record on the GLVC at 13-3 with Missouri-St. Louis falling to Southern Indiana—which creates a four way tie for third at 11-5 between USI, UINDY, Rockhurst (who defeated Southwest Baptist today) and SBU.
