CLAREMORE, Okla.—The Truman Baseball team finished off their series against Rogers State on Sunday, dropping both games of a doubleheader. RSU took the first game 7-0 and the second 13-2. Holden Missey (1-1) started game one for the Bulldogs and threw six innings and took the loss while Alex Leary (0-1) made his first career start in game two and took the loss.
Game One
After a scoreless first two innings, the Hillcats notched four in the bottom of the third. They got two more in the fifth and one more in the sixth to make it 7-0.
The Truman bats were quiet in game one, with the first hit a single from Dakota Spicer in the fifth inning. A 5-4-3 double play ended the scoring threat for the fifth. In the sixth Jake Schneider singled to left, then Justin Maloney singled the left center with runners at first and second Brenden Kelly was hit by a pitch to load the bases. A flyout and a strikeout ended the scoring threat. In the seventh Spicer got his second single of the game, but was unable to move around to score.
Game Two
Kelly led off game two with a single to left. He was later caught stealing and from there two more outs ended the threat in the first. RSU got on the board quickly as they brought three around in the first inning and then three more in the second.
With the score 11-0 in the top of the sixth, Truman got on the board as Reid Wilson doubled to left center and then Missey, the DH in this game, drilled a homer to left.
Tyler Blackington threw 2.2 innings in relief of Leary, allowing one run on two hits. Jaren Guck and Nick Draheim each threw an inning in relief, with Guck making his first appearance for the Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs will be back on the road this coming weekend as they travel to Pittsburg, Kan. to take on Upper Iowa for two and then Pittsburg State for two.
