RECAP: Bulldogs Drop Two on the Diamond

PITTSBURG, Kan.—The Truman Baseball team started their third series of the year Friday as they took on Upper Iowa and Pittsburg State in a double round-robin starting Friday afternoon. Truman dropped the first game to Upper Iowa 6-5 and the second to Pittsburg State 12-1.

Game One

Truman got on the board first in the top of the second. Steven Bradbury reached on a walk, then after a flyout; Will Fromm got awarded a free pass. Next batter was Jake Schneider, who hit a one out single up the middle to bring Bradbury in.

The Peacocks got two in the bottom of the fourth off a solo homer and an RBI groundout.

Holden Missey delivered in the top of the fifth with a three run shot for his third homerun of the year. Brendan Kelly doubled to lead off the inning, Reid Wilson reached on an error to setup Missey's dinger, which gives him 8 RBIs so far this season. The Bulldogs regained a 4-2 lead.

Truman extended their lead in the top of the sixth. Schneider doubled to lead off the inning and with two outs he advanced to third on a pass ball then came home when Wilson reached on an error to put the Bulldogs up 5-2.

From there, UIU got two back in the bottom of the sixth, then one in the seventh and eighth to take a 6-5 lead that would close out the game.

Connor McKenna (1-1) went seven innings for the Bulldogs and got a no-decision. He allowed five runs (four earned) with seven strikeouts. Nick Draheim (0-1) pitched one inning in relief and allowed one run (unearned) and took the loss.

Game Two

In the second game of the day the Bulldogs took on the hosts—Pittsburg State. The Gorillas got on the board very quickly with a three run homerun in the bottom of the first. PSU picked up another run in the third, following a single and a stolen base an RBI single brought in the leadoff man, Mason Hartman. A three run fourth made the PSU lead 7-0, when Truman got on the board with a longball from Brendan Larkin over the left field wall. From there PSU came around five more times to make it a 12-1 final.

Rian Markes (0-2) took the loss for TSU while David Henderson (2-1) picked up the win.

Truman will be back out tomorrow at 10 am for a rematch with UIU and then at 1 pm for their second game with the Gorillas.
