RECAP: Bulldogs Split Second Day of Pittsburg State Round Robin

PITTSBURG, Kan.—The Truman Baseball team played two on Saturday at Pittsburg State, with a rematch against Upper Iowa and Pitt State. After a tough loss to UIU yesterday, the Bulldogs pulled through today with a 16-10 win. However, the Gorillas got the better of the Bulldogs in the second game 20-5.

Game One

Upper Iowa got an early 4-0 lead, but in the bottom of the third Truman broke through with a three run homerun by Steven Bradbury. After Brendan Kelly led off with a single and stole second, Dakota Spicer walked and then Holden Missey reached on a fielder's choice while Kelly was thrown out. Bradbury came to the plate and launched his first dinger of the year into left center to make it a 4-3 game.

In the fourth, Truman tied it up on a bases loaded sac fly with one out by Kelly. Will Fromm came into score, unearned. UIU scored four in the top of the fifth, but Truman answered in the bottom of the fifth with four of their own. Missey led off with a walk and then Bradbury singled. Jack Darwin reached on a throwing error and from there Missey came in to score. Fromm singled through the left side to bring Bradbury in, making it an 8-6 game. Later with the bases loaded Jake Schneider grounded into a double play but it brought Darwin in to score from third. With Fromm on third base, Justin Maloney singled to right field to bring Fromm in and tie the game up at eight apiece.

Upper Iowa regained the lead with a run in the top of the sixth, but Truman broke it open in the bottom of the inning with five runs. With Spicer at third and Missey at first, Darwin doubled to right center to bring Spicer in and move Missey to third. Fromm followed with a single to right, which scored Missey. Darwin came in to score on an error. It gave Truman an 11-9 lead, their first lead of the game.

Adam Stolley followed with an RBI single through the right side, which brought Fromm in. Stolley would later score on a wild pitch to make it 13-9. Truman got two more in the seventh as Missey homered to left center and Bradbury came in to score on a wild pitch after getting a triple.

Truman led 15-9 when UIU got one back in the top of the 8th, but Truman came around for their final run of the game as Schneider reached on an error, then advanced to third on a double by Maloney then scored following a fielding error.

Tyler Blackington (1-0) got his first career win, throwing four innings in relief of Missey—the Truman starter. Parker Kray (0-1) took the loss.

Game Two

Pittssburg State scored the first 20 runs of the game, but Truman struck for five in the top of the seventh. With the bases loaded Maloney singled up the middle to bring in Bradbury, who opened the inning with a walk. Kelly doubled to left center, bringing in Stolley and Will Wirt. Maloney came in to score on a wild pitch, which advanced Kelly to third. Kelly came in to score on an RBI groundout by Spicer.

Alex Leary (0-2) took the loss for the Bulldogs while Cameron Mauldin (1-2) picked up the win.
