ST. CHARLES, Mo.—The Truman Baseball team resumed their season Saturday against Lindenwood. The Lions came into the series on a seven game winning streak and came out victorious in both games as they downed the Bulldogs 11-5 and 4-3 this afternoon.
Game One
Leadoff hitter Brendan Kelly struck out swinging in the first at bat of the game, but reached on a dropped strike three, taking first base. He then stole second base and then Steven Bradbury walked. Holden Missey flied out to advance both runners, now on second and third. Brendan Larkin singled to left to bring Kelly in for the first run of the game. Bradbury advanced to third on the play, then scored on a foulout to right by Evan Kayser.
The Bulldogs took a 2-0 lead into the bottom of the first, but allowed nine runs over the next three innings to get down 9-2. In the fourth, Truman got three back. Kayser, Dakota Spicer and Adam Stolley each singled to start the inning. Jake Schneider brought Kayser in on a sac fly, Stolley stole second and then advanced to third on a throwing error and from there Spicer came in. Justin Maloney singled up the middle and brought Stolley in for the final Bulldog run of the game. Lindenwood came around twice more to win 11-5. Blake Beckmann (2-0) got the win while Connor McKenna (1-2) took the loss.
Game Two
Rian Markes pitched a gem in the second game of the doubleheader. He threw eight innings with just six hits allowed, no runs and six strikeouts. Truman struck first in the fourth. Bradbury started the inning with a double down the third base line, then advanced to third on a groundout by Missey then came into score on an RBI groundout by Larkin.
In the ninth, Missey started the inning with a double to right center. He came in to score on a wild pitch. Later in the inning Spicer singled to left then advanced on a wild pitch. Stolley singled down the first base line to bring Spicer in. The Bulldogs took a 3-0 lead into the bottom of the ninth, but the Lions struck for four runs in the final frame to take the game 4-3. Brody Roach (2-0) picked up his second win of the season while Nick Draheim (0-2) took the loss.
The two will be back on the diamond tomorrow at 1 for the first of two games.
