RECAP: Bulldogs Nipped Twice by Lions

ST. CHARLES, Mo.—The Truman Baseball team took the diamond for another doubleheader against Lindenwood Sunday and dropped two heartbreaking games, the first a 4-3 defeat as Lindenwood scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh and the second a 3-1 loss as a Truman rally fell short.

Game One

Holden Missey (1-2) took the mound for the Bulldogs in this one and pitched 6.2 innings, allowing four runs (three earned). He struck out three batters, but despite the quality start took the loss. Kyle Hentis (4-0) picked up the win for the Lions.

Truman trailed 1-0 going into the top of the fifth, when they struck for all three of their runs. Dakota Spicer reached on an error then advanced when Will Fromm was hit by a pitch. Jake Schneider singled to left to bring Spicer in to tie the game. Fromm advanced to third on a fielder's choice, Schneider was thrown out but Kory Carter reached. Carter stole second, then was driven in by Justin Maloney—who hit a two RBI single up the middle, who also brought Fromm in.

Lindenwood tied it up in the sixth with two runs, then brought in the winning run in in the bottom of the seventh with a bases loaded single with two outs.

Game Two

The Lions flipped the script on the Bulldogs in game two, where they jumped out to a 3-0 lead, and took that lead into the ninth.

With one out, Steven Bradbury hit a ground rule double to put himself in scoring position. With two outs, Brendan Larkin singled up the middle to bring Bradbury in. Evan Kayser entered the game as a pinch runner but a flyout ended the game and Truman's rally attempt.

Niko Marshall (1-0) picked up the win for the Lions while Eric Hipp picked up his second save of the year. Marshall pitched 5.2 innings and didn't allow a run. Alex Leary (0-3) took the loss for Truman, throwing 5.1 innings and allowing three runs on five hits. He struck out a season high four batters.

The Bulldogs return home for their first home series of the year this weekend as they take on Indianapolis Saturday in a doubleheader starting at noon and then the series finale on noon Sunday.
