NOTES: Final Regular Season Weekend On Tap For Truman Women

PDF Notes

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – With seeding and NCAA postseason implications on the line, the Truman Women's Basketball team will play their final two regular season games on the road this week. The Bulldogs will travel to St. Louis and battle Maryville University on Thursday night before heading to Rolla and Missouri S&T for the regular season finale.

Drury has secured the Great Lakes Valley Conference regular season championship and top seed in next week's postseason conference tournament but the seeds for the rest of the tournament field will be determined in the final two games. Truman (18-7; 14-4 GLVC) is fourth in the GLVC points rating system with a 3.72. Lewis is second at 4.00 and Southern Indiana is third at 3.89. Lindenwood is fifth at 3.67.

The top two seeds will play on Thursday with the benefit of earning a rest day during the tournament if they should advance to Saturday's semifinals. Of the 16 GLVC schools, half (8) have locked into PSR totals for winning percentage and points involving those games are set. For Truman, that means their results against McKendree, William Jewell, Southwest Baptist, first Maryville game, Bellarmine, Indianapolis, Lindenwood and Drury will give the Bulldogs 34.5 points. The rest of the points will fluctuate depending on the remaining games with the final tournament seeds being announced on Saturday evening by the league office.

The Bulldogs also appeared in the first NCAA Division II Midwest regional rankings that were put out last Wednesday. Truman was in the 10th and final spot among the three conferences that make-up the Midwest Region. Drury and Ashland were the top two teams followed by Grand Valley State, Walsh, Kentucky Wesleyan, Southern Indiana, Ferris State, Lewis and Lindenwood made up spots three through nine. There are two more rankings to be released by the NCAA with the selection of the five at-large bids in addition to the three conference tournament automatic qualifiers coming on Sunday, March 7.

Truman moved closer to their second straight 20-win season on Saturday after downing Southwest Baptist 80-66. Hannah Belanger connected on six three-pointers for the third game this season and scored 24 points for the Bulldogs in the win. Belanger, Katey Klucking (4) and Tiffany Davenport (3) accounted for all 13 three-pointers for the Bulldogs while Truman shot 52% overall for the game and 50% from outside. The win set a new school record for Truman in terms of conference wins with 14 that was previous held by both the 2016 and 2019 teams.

One more win in conference will guarantee the team having the best league winning percentage in school history. Again the previous high mark is 72.2% in both 2016 and 2019 while one more win will make Truman's conference winning percentage at no worse that 75%. Two more wins, regardless of conference or postseason, will give the Bulldogs back-to-back 20-win seasons and their seventh overall 20-win campaign. It would be the sixth 20-win season since 2012-13.
Katie Jaseckas has her nine-game double-figure scoring streak stopped on Saturday at eight points but had 10 defensive rebounds in the win over SBU. Jaseckas has taken over the team lead in scoring at 13.2 points per game and has averaged 16.8 since January 23rd. She is fifth in field goal percentage at 54% overall and 55% in conference and fourth in blocks at 2.0 per league game.

Belanger has climbed to within 10 three-pointers from cracking the single-season top 10 at Truman. She had a team-high 59 triples on 139 attempts and is averaging 12.4 points per game in her first season as a Bulldog. She has the team's highest single-game point total this season when she scored 29 against Illinois Springfield. Belanger is fourth in overall three-point shooting at 42% and third in triples made per game at 2.5.

Klucking is only six back of Belanger for the team lead in threes with 53. She is averaging 9.9 points per game and is ranked in conference-only stats in assists (T11th/3.17), three-pointers made (T7th/2.17) and assist/turnover ratio (1.43).  Klucking is second in assists with 70.

Maddie Re is the team's top board hound at just under 10 per game. Re has started all 25 games and has a team-high eight double-doubles on the season. She has pulled down 16 rebounds in three games this season and has 73 offensive boards. She is 10th in Truman single-season rebounding with 242 and will match Felicia Sutton's 1990 total with her next board.

Sloane Totta will be a game day decision after leaving last Thursday's game against Drury and making a ceremonial senior day start on Saturday against Southwest Baptist.  Totta has played and started in 110 straight games and is fourth in conference assists per game and fifth in assist/turnover ratio. Totta entered Truman's 1,000-point club earlier this month and has 1,050 points to go with 348 assists and 98 steals.

Alex Wiese made her first collegiate start on Saturday. She went 3-of-4 from the field for six points in 16 minutes of court time. For the season, Wiese has played in 19 games with a 2.0 ppg mark and 2.9 rebound mark.
