ST.LOUIS—The Truman Men's Basketball team entered Thursday night tied with Missouri-St. Louis at the top of the GLVC standings and with a 94-65 win over Maryville remained tied with the Tritons with one game left in the season. With a win over Missouri S&T on Saturday, the Bulldogs would clinch at least a share of the regular season title since 1978-79, and could win the title outright.
Most of the first half the Saints kept the game close. But once the Bulldogs got their first double digit lead with 2:11 to go in the first half at 36-26, there was no looking back. It started a 9-2 run for Truman to close out the first half and gave Truman a 15 point lead going into intermission at 43-28.
Maryville got the first bucket of the season half, but an 8-0 run from Truman expanded the lead to 21. Brodric Thomas hit the first of his two threes to start the run and hit the final jumper of the surge. From there the Bulldogs expanded their lead to as many as 31 in the second half, and cruised to a 29 point victory.
Cade McKnight led the team with 18 points, while Dylan Peeters got his second double-double of the season with 13 points and 12 rebounds in 18 minutes. Luke TerHark scored 11 points, a high for him as a Bulldog. As a team the Bulldogs shot 37-71 from the field (52.1%) and made 13-30 threes (43.3%).
The Bulldogs remain in second place behind UMSL in the ratings system by just .05 (UMSL is at 3.92 to TSU's 3.87), each with one game left to play. Truman takes on S&T at 3:00 Saturday while UMSL hosts Illinois Springfield.
