RECAP: Bulldogs Win Wild OT Thriller Over Maryville 84-83

Box Score (HTML)

ST. LOUIS – Katie Jaseckas' 19th rebound of the night led to her put back with just over three seconds left in overtime and the Truman Women's Basketball team survived a final shot by the Maryville Saints to win a thriller 84-83.

Jaseckas set new career benchmarks in both points and boards as she scored 29 with 19 rebounds, six on the offensive end with four blocked shots. Two other Bulldogs joined Jaseckas in double-digit boards with Maddie Re adding 13 and Katey Klucking pulling down 10.

Rebounds were a key factor as Truman had to rally from 11 points down near the start of the third quarter. Truman won the glass 52-33 and limited Maryville to only eight offensive rebounds in 45 minutes of action.

Jayda Jansen was the star in the first half with 20, first-half points for Maryville and the Saints took their largest lead with 9:20 to go in the third quarter at 48-39.
Re started a 13-3 run for Truman that reeled the Saints back in. Jaseckas would knock down a triple to tie the game at 53.

From there it was a proverbial "dog fight." Neither team could get separation with Truman holding the lead for most of the fourth quarter by no more than four points.

Re gave Truman a three-point lead at 74-71 with 31 seconds to play but Mary Barton converted on a three-point play to tie the game five seconds later. Both teams had chances but couldn't get shots to fall so extra time was needed.

It was the first overtime since Truman downed Maryville nearly a year ago at the conference tournament.

Tiffany Davenport struck from three to start OT but Barton scored the next five to put Maryville up 79-77.  Jaseckas scored to tie it and a minute later Hannah Belanger converted on a three-point play to put Truman up by a trey.

Barton would score the next four with her last coming with 25 seconds to go that put Maryville up 83-82.

Truman called timeout and the Bulldogs worked a pass down low to Jasekcas, who missed the initial shot but gathered the rebound and put it back in with three seconds showing.

Maryville got one last crack and Abby Monis wound up with the ball but missed the short jumper.

Jansen and Barton each finished with 32 points for Maryville.

Jasekcas was joined in scoring by Belanger with 23.

Truman will look for back-to-back 20-win seasons when they close out the regular season on Saturday at Missouri S&T. Tip time is slated for 1 p.m. in Rolla, Missouri.
