Truman Senior Spotlight : Baseball

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – This week, Truman State University Athletics will honor spring senior student-athletes that did not have an opportunity for a "Senior Day" due to cancellation of the season.

The following are graduating senior student-athletes from the Truman Baseball team.

Tyler Blackington – Blackington pitched in relief in 28 games during the course of four seasons. He was the winning pitcher in Truman's 16-10 win over Upper Iowa on February 22. Had a career high six strikeouts in four innings of work and the winner in the Bulldogs 4-3 conference win over Indianapolis throwing the seventh and eighth innings. Served as a designated hitter in a handful of games during his freshman season and picked up an RBI in 16 at bats. Blackington was a past honoree on the GLVC All-Academic squad.

Brian Edell – Started 51 of 53 games in two seasons as a Bulldog. For his career, hit .206 with six doubles, two home runs and drove in 24 RBI. Has a three-hit game against Illinois Springfield on March 10, 2019 and a three RBI game against Rockhurst on March 30 of that same season. Edell has been a member of the GLVC All-Academic team.

Rian Markes – Started 40 of 41 games with over 200 innings pitched in four seasons as a Bulldog. Arguably one of his strongest outings came this season when he tossed a career-best eight shutout innings against Lindenwood back on February 29. Markes fanned 115 hitters while walking 59 during his Truman career and was a winner in six games. He won three games in his freshman season including a 2-0 combine shutout over Missouri S&T and a complete-game seven inning win over Missouri-St. Louis in consecutive starts. His other complete game can during his sophomore season, in which he threw six innings in a 4-3 Bulldog home win over Saginaw Valley on March 18, 2018. Markes has earned All-Academic GLVC honors during his career.
