PEPPER PIKE, Ohio - Wisconsin Parkside outscored the #23 Truman Women 35-21 in the fourth quarter and pulled away with a 78-66 victory in the season opener on Friday night at the GLVC/GLIAC/GMAC Conference Challenge. Hannah Belanger scored 28 and Ellie Weltha added 23 points.
The Bulldogs had to play catchup most of the night after trailing 23-16 after one and scoring only five points in the second quarter to fall behind by 10 at the halftime break.
The third quarter saw Truman fight back. A 9-0 run at the end of the quarter pulled the Bulldogs to the lead at 45-43.
The Rangers got two free throws to knot the score back up to start the fourth then went on a 14-4 run to go up 59-49 with 4:43 to play.
Belanger's three-pointer pulled Truman to within three after a 7-0 run but Hannah Plockelman responded with a Parkside triple on their next possession and that would be as close as Truman would come.
Belanger would finish with 28 points on 10-of-22 shooting and two three-pointers. Weltha scored 23 on 8-of-10 shooting, however no other Truman player hit double figure scoring. Maddie Re grabbed a team high 10 rebounds. The Bulldogs turned the ball over 27 times with Parkside converting those turnovers into 26 points.
Alyssa Nelson paced the Rangers with 21 points and Plockelman finished with 17.Â
Truman returns to the court on Saturday afternoon against host Ursuline. The Arrows laid waste to Quincy 95-57 in the opener on Friday evening.
