CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - Ellie Weltha led all Truman scorers with 21 points but the Northern Iowa Panthers took control after the first quarter and downed the Truman Women's Basketball team 83-58 in an exhibition game on Tuesday night. Truman returns to action for a second exhibition game on Thursday against #9 University of Iowa at 6:30 p.m.
Truman made seven of their first 11 shots and rolled out to a 16-11 lead after the first quarter. The Panthers reversed that trend in the next three as they outscored the Bulldogs 22-14 in the second and led 33-30 at the half. UNI scored 26 points in the third and 24 in the fourth while holding Truman to 14 in each second half quarter.
Weltha was 8-of-13 from the field with a three-pointer and pulled down seven rebounds to lead Truman. Hannah Belanger scored 13 points on 4-of-11 shooting and 1-of-6 from three.
Truman shot 40% for the game and was 5-of-15 from outside. The Panthers controlled the glass by a 35-21 advantage.Â
Cynthia Wolf and Grace Boffeli led UNI with 14 points each as the Northern Iowa bench outscored the Truman bench 42-20.
