KIRKSVILLE, Mo.--The Truman Baseball team dropped two games against Sioux Falls Saturday, a heartbreaker 2-1 in game one in which freshman Michael Daggett threw a gem of a game with 6.1 innings pitched, allowed just two runs. In the second game the Cougars jumped out to a 6-0 lead after the top of the first and won 16-4.
Game One
It was a pitcher's duel between Daggett and Cole Schumacher. Daggett took the loss to drop to 0-2 on the season while Schumacher got the win, his first of the year. USF jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the third after a lead off walk. A sac bunt moved Ryan Meyer to second, and with two outs Jared Binsfeld singled to the right to bring Meyer in. Truman evened the game in the bottom of the third as Luke Turner launched his first Bulldog homerun, a solo shot.
In the top of the fourth, Ryan Bernardy got a leadoff double and then would score on an RBI groundout. But down 2-1, the Bulldogs would have a chance to even it up in the bottom of the fourth. With runners on the corners and one out, the Bulldogs were unable to bring in the tying run. In the sixth with runners on the corners, the Bulldogs could not bring in the tying run with two outs.
Game Two
The Cougars scored six in the top of the first inning, and that outburst set the tone for the game as the visitors won going away. Jordan Marlott came on in relief starting in the first inning and threw 3.2 innings in relief, allowing just one run and striking out seven batters.
The Bulldogs will be back in action on Friday as they open GLVC play at the University of Indianapolis.
