KIRKSVILLE, Mo.--The Truman Men's Soccer team hosted Lewis to round out the weekend in Bulldog athletics, and despite hanging tough most of the game Truman fell 2-1 on a goal in the 83rd minute by the Flyers.
In the first half, Lewis got on the board very quickly as Matthew Beaulieu put the first shot of the game into the net to put Lewis ahead 1-0 in the third minute. In the 16th minute Truman keeper Julian Echeverri stopped Beaulieu from scoring again with a great save up high to keep the game at 1-0. In the 33rd minute the Bulldogs put their first effort on net, as Thomas Weber drove one low and center, which was gobbled up by Lewis keeper Will Maurice. Lewis had one last chance to put a second on the board with a shot and then a subsequent rebound shot but Echeverri had great reflexes and managed to stop both; keeping it 1-0 heading into intermission.
In the second half, Truman came out hot; dominating the possession. As the attack moved forward, Sam Newton drew a foul in the box in the 53rd minute to put Andy Brennan up for a penalty shot. The Irish midfielder drove the ball to his right while Maurice went the opposite way as Truman evened the game.
The second half continued on, with both teams playing aggressive defense. Shots were hard to come by, but in the 83rd minute Sebastian Arguello hit a shot from outside the box which curled on its way into the net and beat Echeverri to the top corner. Despite one last push from the Bulldogs over the last few minutes of the game, the Flyers kept Truman at bay and kept the Bulldogs off the board.
Truman will be back on the road against Illinois Springfield (played at Collinsville, Ill.) and then at Quincy next weekend.
