RECAP: Men’s Soccer Falls to Quincy on Late Goal

QUINCY, Ill.--The Truman Men's Soccer team returned to the pitch Sunday afternoon, taking on Quincy across the border in the Land of Lincoln. In a game without much fireworks, the Hawks ultimately pulled it out 1-0.

The first half built very slowly as neither team was able to gain much of an edge in the attack. The Bulldogs recorded the first five shots of the game, but were unable to put them on net. Sam Newton missed high in the sixth minute, Luke Payne had two shots--one missed high and the other left, and Andy Brennan had a shot blocked in the 19th minute--but got a rebound for a shot that missed to the right. Neither team managed a shot on goal in the first half.

Julian Echeverri made the first save of the game in the 53rd minute, stopping an effort that was up and to the left. In the 59th minute he made his second save to the lower left side of his net. Echeverri made another save low and to the left in the 62nd minute. In the 74th minute Kyle Swanner got one past Echeverri high and to the right for the lone score of the game. Truman rushed forward the rest of the game, and Mac Knudsen recorded a shot on goal but it would not reach the back of the net as Quincy held on.

The Bulldogs will be back in action Saturday at William Jewell, with a 12:30 kickoff.
