LIBERTY, Mo.--The Truman Men's Soccer team dropped a late decision at William Jewell Saturday 1-0 as the Cardinals scored a late goal to take the match from the Bulldogs.
In the first half, both teams struggled to generate offense as there were just four shots in the half--the only one on goal came from Jewell but Truman keeper Julian Echeverri was up to the challenge in the 31st minute.
Very early in the second half, Echeverri was tested again and prevented a low right shot from reaching the back of the net. Ian McCluskey recorded Truman's first shot on goal in the 49th minute, it was the first shot of the second half. But the effort to the bottom left was kept out of the goal. Sam Newton came up with the second Truman shot on goal in the 68th minute, low and down the middle but it was also corralled and kept out of the back of the net. Just 20 seconds later Mac Knudesen had a high effort that was stopped by the keeper.
In the 83rd minute Ethan Jayaram scored the lone goal of the game. But Truman was not done as Newton had one more shot late in the 87th minute that could have tied it up but WJC's Eli Grant made his fourth save and kept the clean sheet.
Truman will be back on the pitch next Friday as they welcome Rockhurst to Bulldog Soccer Park for a 3:30 kickoff.
