KIRKSVILLE, Mo.--The Truman Men's Soccer team returned home to the friendly confines of Bulldog Soccer Park Friday afternoon looking for their first win since the season opener. In another nail biting game, the Bulldogs came up just short falling 1-0 to the Rockhurst Hawks.
The first half the Bulldogs played on the Hawks end of the field to open with, and ultimately Ian McCluskey recorded the first shot on goal almost 21 minutes into the game. Sam Newton would get the next shot on goal almost 34 minutes into the half, and to that point the Bulldogs had kept the Hawks from testing Joey Keane in net. But things shifted quickly as Rockhurst pressed forward and had two shots on goal in a minute span and the second one from Elluan Martins Gomes found the back of the net.
Holden Potter, Andy Brennan and George Francis V each had shots for an equalizer in the second half, with Francis having a golden opportunity after getting around the keeper. But the Hawks managed to intercept the shot and keep it out of the net. Despite another great effort on defense in the second half and outshooting the Hawks 9-5 (with five on net to Rockhurst's three), the Bulldogs could not find the back of the net to even the score.
The Bulldogs will be back at Truman Soccer Park Sunday afternoon as they take on Southwest Baptist on Senior Day.
