KIRKSVILLE, Mo.--The Truman Men's Soccer team got back in the win column Sunday afternoon as they took down Southwest Baptist 1-0 as Andy Brennan scored a goal in the 83rd minute--running down the right side of the pitch and beating the keeper to the left corner. Luke Payne and George Francis V both assisted on the only score of the game.
The Bulldogs had chances for more in the first half, attempting ten shots with five on goal. Brennan had the first chance in the 14th minute going again to the bottom left, but did not convert. Ian McCluskey had the next chance in the 18th minute, going again for that bottom left. McCluskey had another chance in the 31st minute but once again SBU covered the bottom left corner to keep the game scoreless. Late in the half, Max Sengl attempted a high scot but once again it was kept out of the net. As the half wound to a close Jack Austin attempted a shot from well outside the box and while it almost slipped in the bottom right corner the SBU keeper moved over just in time to send the game to intermission tied at zero.
The second half did not have the wide open play that the first half did, and both teams grinded for attacks. In the 64th minute Sengl attempted the first shot by either team, which went wide. Truman was able to generate a couple more shots, then in the 83rd minute Francis found Payne who connected with Brennan on the strike that won the game. It was the only shot on goal by either side in the half.
The Bulldogs will close the regular season this Friday as they take on Drury in Springfield.
