KIRKSVILLE, Mo.--The Truman Baseball team took on Illinois Springfield Saturday in a doubleheader with two seven inning contests. The Prairie Stars took both games, winning the first 10-0 and the second 20-1.
Zachry Schneider got the start in game one, and had a respectable outing despite the loss; which dropped him to 0-3 on the season. He threw six innings and allowed just four runs on four hits, with only two runs earned. Truman's best threat to score came in the fourth inning when Reid Wilson singled, then with two outs advanced to second following a single by Holden Missey. A wild pitch moved each of them up a base, with Wilson moving to third and Missey to second. But the Bulldogs could not bring them around.
In game two, things started out looking a bit more promising on offense for the Bulldogs. Down 1-0 in the bottom of the first, Kolin Demel was hit by a pitch with one out. Missey singled to move Demel to second, and a throwing error moved Demel to third. Missey would advance to second on a groundout, but once again the offense stalled and Truman was unable to put a run across in the frame.
In the top of the third, Brendan Kelly got his first career homerun as he took Clarke Davenport deep to left. It injected the Bulldogs with some life as they entered the inning down 6-1. Justin Maloney followed with a walk but the offense was unable to bring him home.
In the top of the fifth, the floodgates opened once again for UIS. Six runs in the frame made it 12-1, they added one more in the sixth to make it 13-1, then for the third game in a row a huge seventh inning made the score what it would conclude to be at 20-1.
Michael Daggett took the loss for Truman to drop to 0-4 while Davenport got the win to move to 2-0.
The two teams will play their series finale tomorrow afternoon at noon at Truman Baseball Park.
