KIRKSVILLE, Mo.--The Truman Baseball team closed out its four game set against Illinois Springfield Sunday afternoon, and the Prairie Stars once again got the better of the Bulldogs 12-0. Ben Fugitt started for the Bulldogs and took the loss to fall to 0-4 on the season while Chad Saner picked up the win for UIS to move to 3-0 on the season.
Fugitt pitched the first 1.2 innings, allowing two earned runs on five hits. Jordan Marlott came in in relief and pitched 3.1 innings, allowing just two runs with one earned. Jack Owens pitched the sixth inning and gave up just one hit with no runs coming across. Holden Missey pitched the seventh after playing at first and allowed one run on two hits.
Truman picked up their first hit of the afternoon in the fifth inning as Sam Smith beat out an infield single to short. Two batters later Brendan Kelly reached on an error while Smith moved to third. With two outs Truman had runners on the corners, but were unable to bring them across the plate. It was their best scoring chance of the day, they also had a chance in the first inning when Kevin Donohue walked to start the game and then moved to second as Will Fromm reached on an error with one out. But the Bulldogs could not bring either of them home.
Truman will be back in action this Thursday as they begin a four game set at Quincy April 1 at 3:00.
