KIRKSVILLE, Mo.--The Truman Men's Soccer team returned home Friday to take on Lindenwood. In their third straight one goal game, the Bulldogs fell just short as they lost to the Lions 4-3 in overtime.
Andy Brennan got the scoring started quickly for the Bulldogs as he converted a penalty shot in the second minute. Mac Knudsen drew a foul in the box, which set up the penalty shot that Brennan made into the bottom right corner. Just under three minutes later the Bulldogs were back on the board as Luke Payne played a ball in from the left flank and Knudsen tipped it and it found its way to the foot of Jack Knust who buried it for his first career goal. The Lions would answer as Isaac Hoog scored in the 12th minute to cut the Bulldog lead in half. Truman had one more good opportunity in the 19th minute as the Lions keeper had left his net but the team made a save to keep it a 2-1 game, and that's how the half would end.
In the second half, Truman started the scoring in the 59th minute as Knudsen played a ball forward for Payne and the Lions keeper did not get to the ground fast enough as Payne got enough of a foot on the ball to put it under the keeper's arms to make it 3-1 Bulldogs.
The Truman defense had hung tough against the Lindenwood attack in the second, but in the 83rd minute Gabriel Herrera scored the first of his two goals. On a corner kick, the ball bounced around and it bounced to him and he found an open spot to score. Just over five minutes later he got the equalizer off a free kick from just outside the box.
Just over two minutes into overtime, Feho Sabotic scored the game winning goal for the Lions.
Truman will be back in action this Sunday as they take on Missouri-St. Louis at 2:30 at Bulldog Soccer Park.
