QUINCY, Ill.--The Truman Baseball team returned to the diamond on Friday with a doubleheader at Quincy. Zachry Schneider started the first game for Truman, picking up the loss to drop to 0-4 as Truman fell 9-2. Jordan Marlott made his first start in game two and picked up the loss--his first career decision in a 19-6 defeat.
Sam Smith had another two hit game, with singles in the first and sixth. But the Bulldogs offense was stagnant until the seventh when Kory Carter got a one out single to right field with one out. With two outs, Jack Darwin singled to right to bring Carter in, then Kolin Demel singled to left and Will Wirt singled up the middle to bring in Darwin.
In game two, Truman jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first. Dakota Spicer walked with one out, and later advanced to second on a pass ball. Darwin walked to put runners on first and second, then Holden Missey walked to load the bases. Carter came up and hit a towering pop up that managed to drop in shallow left and score two runs. Jake Schneider followed with a walk to load the bases again. Justin Maloney walked to bring in another run.
Quincy put two across in the bottom of the first, and then jumped ahead with seven in the bottom of the second. Truman got one back in the top of the third with a bases loaded walk from Sam Smith to bring in Missey, but the bottom of the third from the Hawks put the game out of reach.
Darwin homered in the top of the fourth with Will Fromm on second for his first homer of the season. He had three RBI's today and three hits. Â
Truman finishes the series Saturday at 3:30.Â
