KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – A late second half goal snapped the Truman Women's Soccer team's three-match winning streak as the Rockhurst Hawks downed the Bulldogs 2-1 at the Truman Soccer Park on Friday.
The Bulldogs had entered the match not allowing a goal in seven halves but a direct corner kick from Jillian Leetch in the 12
th minute ended that streak. Leetch used the wind and knifed a ball through traffic untouched into the net from the left corner spot for the 1-0 lead.
Johanna Wallstab fed a pass to
Faith Branson in the 61
st minute and Branson outmaneuvered the Rockhurst keeper for an empty netter to square the match at one.
Another free kick set up the eventual game winner for Rockhurst. The kick was served in by Alex Moss and hit the cross bar, the ball then found a scrum in the middle of the box and was eventually punched in by Mallory Mumby with 11 minutes left to play.
With just over two minutes left, Truman had a great chance for the equalizer as
Paige Peterson broke loose and deked the keeper but was halted from behind before her shot could find the open net.
Rockhurst improved to 6-4-3 overall while Truman dropped to 5-6. The Bulldogs will be at home for the final time this spring on Sunday hosting Southwest Baptist at noon.
