KIRKSVILLE, Mo.—The Truman Baseball team had to work its schedule around the forecast this weekend and played two games on Friday for the first time this season as they took on the Missouri S&T Miners. The Miners took both games Friday afternoon, both by a score of 10-6. In game one, Cade Meier picked up the win to improve to 5-2 and Connor McKenna took the loss to drop to 1-6. In game two, Dylan Dunbar got the win to move to 2-4 and Alex Leary took the loss to drop to 1-2 on the season.
Game One
The Miners got on the board first with four runs in the top of the first, all unearned. The Bulldogs got on the board in the second as Holden Missey singled with one out, stole second and then with two outs Jake Schneider singled to center field and brought Missey in.
After a scoreless third, S&T got back on the board in the top of the fourth with a sac fly. In the bottom of the inning, Missey reached on an error, Evan Kayser was hit by a pitch and then Schneider bunted his way on with a protection check swing and it turned out to be a perfectly placed bunt he beat out to load the bases. Dakota Spicer walked to bring a run in, but it was the only run the Bulldogs would bring in in the inning to make it 5-2.
S&T scored five consecutive runs to make it 10-2. In the bottom of the sixth Jack Darwin led off with a double to left center, and then moved to third as Missey singled through the left side. Kayser hit a sac fly to bring Darwin in. Later in the inning, with two outs Will Fromm came up to pinch hit with Missey on third and Schneider on first after a walk. Fromm launched a no-doubt shot over the wall in left center to make it 10-6. But the Bulldog rally would come up short as the Miners locked it down for the last four outs.
Despite the loss, McKenna got a career high eight strikeouts.
Game Two
Just like in game one, the Miners led 4-0 after the top of the first. In the bottom of the frame, Fromm launched a solo shot with two outs for his second homer of the day, his fourth of the season. Koru Carter followed with a triple down the line in right field and it rolled past the fielder to allow Carter to reach third base with his first triple of the season. He later scored on a wild pitch to make it 4-2. In the bottom of the third, Kevin Donohue was hit by a pitch with one out and Steven Bradbury followed with a homer to left center to knot the game up at four.
In the fourth, both teams got one run on the board. S&T executed a double steal and stole home, and in the bottom of the frame Kayser singled to center and then came around to score on a sac fly by Brendan Kelly.
Truman took the lead in the bottom of the fifth as two walks put runners on first and second. Missey then singled up the middle and allowed Fromm to come in and make it 6-5. From there S&T scored the last five runs of the game and took the win.
The teams will resume their series tomorrow morning at 11 am with a single nine inning game.
