RECAP: Schneider Gets First Win, Fromm Gets Two More RBIs as Bulldogs Defeat Miners

KIRKSVILLE, Mo.—Zachry Schenider got his first win as a Bulldog Saturday afternoon as he pitched seven innings, allowing eight hits and six runs (five earned) as the Truman Baseball team defeated Missouri S&T 8-6. Schneider improved to 1-8 and Elijah Gross took the loss for the Miners to drop to 2-2.

Schneider didn't allow a baserunner in the first two innings, and it allowed Truman to get the lead and never trailed in the game. In the bottom of the first Justin Dietiker led off with a double to right, and then advanced to third on a single by Steven Bradbury. Will Fromm got his first RBI as he hit a long foul ball down the right field line which allowed Dietiker to come in to score.

After a bunt single by S&T to lead off the third, it looked like S&T might get some runs on the board. But Dakota Spicer made a spectacular running catch in left to get the first out of the inning. From there Schneider locked it down and kept the Miners off the board. In the top of the fourth, S&T tied it up with a solo homerun. But in the bottom of the fourth the Bulldogs did their damage.

Holden Missey led off with a single to right, Evan Kayser followed with a single to center. A double steal would have put two in scoring position, but the ball got away from the third baseman to allow Missey to take off and score, making it 2-1. Later Jake Scheinder and Brendan Kelly drew back to back walks which moved Kayser to third with the bases loaded.

Dietiker came up and was hit by a pitch to bring in Truman's third run. Bradbury followed with a single to left which brought Schneider in. Fromm followed and was hit by a pitch to bring Kelly in. The score was 5-1 Truman and with two outs Missey came up. He hit one hard through the left side, and it snuck under the left fielder's glove and nearly rolled to the wall. This allowed him to advance to second and all three runners came in to make it 8-1.

From there, S&T would score the last five runs of the game. Jack Owens came in and held down the eighth to keep it at 8-6 going into the ninth. Missey took the mound, swapping places with Owens. Despite allowing one walk, Missey picked up his second save of the season to preserve the Bulldog win.
