Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Bulldogs Stifled in Low Scoring Game Against Flyers

KIRKSVILLE, Mo.—The Truman Men's Basketball team was back on the court at Pershing Arena Monday night for a rescheduled game against the Lewis Flyers, and both teams played tough defense but ultimately the Flyers came out on top 65-56. Eric Northweather led the Bulldogs with 16 points.

Truman started out well with Trey Shearer scoring the first basket of the game for the second straight game to put the Bulldogs on the board 2-0, and Northweather came back with two three pointers sandwiching a foul shot by Cade McKnight to put Truman up 9-5 just over three minutes into the game. Northweather followed it up with a dunk for eight of the team's first 11 points. Truman led 14-12 when Lewis went on a 10-0 run as they jumped ahead for the first time in the game. Truman responded with seven straight, starting with a three pointer from Elijah Hazekamp and then two baskets down low from Keaton Mitchell and Northweather. With 3:38 to go in the half it was tied at 27 but the Flyers got the last six points to take a 33-27 lead into intermission.

Early in the second half, a jumper in the paint from Hunter Strait made it a two point game at 35-33. Over the next few minutes, Masen Miller made two three pointers to keep it a two point Lewis lead. But with the game at 41-39, the Flyers went on a 9-0 run to lead by 11. But Truman hung around and with the game 56-47 with 5:30 to play, the Bulldogs went on a 5-0 run with McKnight getting a three point play and Dylan Peeters getting a layup to pull Truman within four. But from there Truman would get no closer.

Truman shot an even 40% from the field, slightly higher than Lewis at 38.3%. Both defenses controlled the game but Lewis made nine three pointers to Truman's six.

The rematch will happen Thursday as the Bulldogs head to Romeoville for a 7:30 tip and then head to UIndy for a Saturday afternoon showdown with the Greyhounds.
