LIBERTY, Mo. - Shamar Griffith had his first 100-yard rushing day as a Bulldogs, while Nolan Hair tossed a pair of touchdown passes and Collin Sutton ran in two more as the Truman State Football team cruised to a 42-7 road win for their sixth straight victory.
The Truman defense forced the Cardinals to three, first quarter three-and-outs while driving into a gusty south wind and the Bulldogs converted each into points. Punts of 21, 10 and 21 yards set up the Bulldogs at midfield on each possession.
The first saw Hair find Chris Kerr at the goal line to cap a nine-play 56-yard drive and a 7-0 lead. The next had Collin Sutton rushing untouched up the middle for an 11-yard scoring play and finally Griffith creased his way and busted free for a 52-yard run and the Bulldogs led 21-0 after one.
Jake Closser picked off a pass on the Cardinals next possession and ran it back 48 yards for a score and then late in the half, Ben Thomas returned a punt 64 yards to the Cardinals 11 and Matt Hall caught Hair's second touchdown throw to extend the lead out to 35 with just over a minute to play in the half.
After six shutout quarters dating back to last season, Jewell found the end zone on a one-yard quarterback dive by Taylor Eggers late in the third quarter.
Sutton capped off the scoring with an 8-yard scamper to complete a 14-play, 75-yard possession.
Griffith finished with 110 yards on 18 carries and Truman, as a whole, grounded out 225 yards on the ground. Hair was 11-of-19 for 109 with Tate Crane hauling in a team-high six catches for 44 yards.
Thomas had two large punt returns, one of 31 and another of 64, in addition to nabbing his 10 career interception.
The Bulldogs have now matched the longest winning streak during Coach Gregg Nesbitt's tenure at six games and will look to improve on that next week with a road test at neighbor Quincy University. The Hawks feature one of the top offenses in the GLVC this season. Kickoff from QU Stadium is slated for 1 p.m.
