Bulldogs Drop Exhibition Game Against Iowa

IOWA CITY, Iowa - Truman Men's basketball faced the University of Iowa, defending Big Ten Tournament champions, in a nonconference matchup. The Bulldogs were defeated 118-72.

Truman coach Jeff Horner made a return to his alma mater, where he won he won a Big Ten Tournament championship and was named the Tournament's Most Outstanding Player.

Elijah Hazekamp got off to a blazing start, shooting 4-4 with 11 points at the 11:25 mark in the first half. The Hawkeyes led 22-19 at that point.

Truman took a 26-25 lead with 10 minutes left in the first half on a Trey Shearer three. Iowa's Connor McCaffery quickly took the lead back with a 3-pointer of his own.

Hunter Strait cut the Iowa lead to 34-31 with a trey, but the Hawkeyes struck back with a Kris Murray putback layup.

The Hawkeyes pulled away, going up 16 with 3:45 left in the first half.

Iowa went into the half up by 24 with a score of 63-39. Elijah Hazekamp led the scoring for Truman with 11. Hunter Strait and Dylan Peeters had five points apiece. Kris Murray and Tony Perkins led Iowa in points with 14 each, Connor McCaffery had 12.

The Bulldogs could not keep pace with Iowa, as the Hawkeyes were up by 40 with 7:06 left in the game.

Hazekamp finished with a team-high 15 points, followed by Hunter Strait with 12, Dylan Peeters with nine, then Joe Knutson with eight. Six other Bulldogs scored points.

Trey Shearer led the Bulldogs in assists with four, and Knutson grabbed five boards.
